On Saturday May 30, 2009 CAFD Stations 1 and 2 responded to a reported barn fire with exposures threatened at 123 Ketola Road. Upon arrival the barn was fully involved with two homes receiving damage due to radiant heat.The 100 year old barn, full of hay and equipment, was a total loss.
The main residence received minor heat damage and an older residence on the property was slightly damaged by fire before suppression crews arrived. The rural nature of the fire required a mobile water supply operation and CAFD units were assisted by tankers from the Carlton and Esko fire departments.
Fire spread into the surrounding hay fields and treeline was extinguished by CAFD and FDL Forestry fire crews.CAFD units were on scene for several hours.

On may 2nd, crews dispatched to report of commercial structure fire @ 25 10th street in Cloquet. Upon arrival visible smoke showing from rear of building. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze and ventilated smoke from the interior of the building. Damage was kept to a minimum. |

Station 1 crews responded to a waterflow alarm at L&M; on Thursday at 2230 hrs. Upon arriving on scene it was noted that water was flowing in the sprinkler system and the shop area had moderate smoke. Crews entered the area and found a lawn tractor fire that was controlled by the sprinkelr system. The fire was extinguished and building ventilated and crews returned to service. Damage was limited to the vehicle of origin. |

On 4/7/09 Cloquet Area Fire District recieved a call for a fire that had started in the garage. Upon arrival Battalion Chief 2 found light smoke conditions in the house with heavy black smoke in the attached garage.
Crews from Engine 2 and Tower 8 ventilated the garage and extinguished a fire that involved a small pile of debris, a rug, and a table. Damage estimates, and the cause of the fire are currently under investigation.

** River and Lake ice is becoming extremely unsafe**
CAFD Battalion 3, and A-shift station 1 responded to a report of a woman who fell through the ice near the Hwy 33 bridge over the St Louis River at approximately 15:00 hrs.
Rescue 1, and Medic unit 12 arrived on scene just as Carlton County Deputies, and Cloquet Police were attempting a rescue. Ice rescue suits were utilized to safely remove the victim, and one dog was pulled from the water. |
